The Venezuelan government publicly thanked UNICEF for its key role in facilitating the safe return of Maikelys Espinoza, a two-year-old Venezuelan girl separated from her mother due to foreign migration policies. Vice President Delcy Rodríguez met with Gianluca Rampolla, Resident Coordinator of the United Nations System in Venezuela, to convey President Nicolás Maduro Moros’ gratitude for the efforts made to achieve this family reunification.

During the meeting, Rodríguez reiterated Venezuela’s request to continue working together to free and protect Venezuelan citizens who are unjustly detained or missing in countries such as El Salvador, under the government of Nayib Bukele.

The arrival of Maikelys and 226 other Venezuelan migrants from Texas was welcomed at Simón Bolívar Maiquetía International Airport by First Combatant Cilia Flores and Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello.

This event symbolizes the priority the Venezuelan government places on protecting and caring for its citizens abroad. Cabello emphasized that Maikelys’ return represents an important victory in defending the rights of Venezuelan families.
